Two years after the defeat of Sin buy Summoner Yuna and her Guardians, and the Eternal Calm is now a reality. Yuna, now High Summoner, has returned to her one-time home of Besaid. She lives a simple life, but is always looking back, always certain something is missing, preventing her from being truly happy.
When one of her former guardians, Rikku, comes to Besaid, bringing with her a mysterious sphere containing a video of the person she believe was lost forever, she is determined to seek out the truth. Together with Rikku, and a new friend by the name of Paine, Yuna joins a group of Al Bhed sphere hunters known as the Gullwings. With their help, she will learn the truths shrouded in shadows, and save Spira once more.
Final Fantasy X-2 was released in 2003 on the Sony PlayStation 2. It is the first direct sequel to a Final Fantasy title, following Yuna's continuing quest. The game features a variation on the job system seen in some of the early Final Fantasies, that allows the player to change job in mid-battle through the use of the innovative "sphere grid". It is also once of the few games in the Final Fantasy series that boasts multiple endings and the New Game+ feature.
Final Fantasy X-2, though the fifth best-selling title in the series, has had its share of criticisms. It marked a noticable shift in tone from previous installments as well as several stylistic changes that did not appeal to all fans.
