Episode 2

In the White Daylight, the Assassin Smiles

Mission 1

Having arrived in Junon, Reno and the player proceeded to the President's hotel. For the moment, things looked quiet, but looks are often deceiving. After ordering the President's guards to inform them of any suspicious activity, Reno and the player escorted the President to his room.

Just about that time, several members of Avalanche arrived, and attacked the guards. One of the guards ran into the room to warn them, but before the Turks could take action, the guard was hit with a fire spell from behind, incinerating him, and several rebels forced their way into the room. They were no match for the Turks, however.

Once the President was safe for the moment, Veld appeared on a video screen in the room and suggested that he cancel all of the speeches he had planned for the afternoon. The President initially refused, prompting Veld to show him the footage from the hotel's security monitors. A large number of Avalanche rebels had infilitrated the hotel.

Unconcerned, the President simply told Veld to handle it. Veld ordered Reno to stay and guard the President while the player was sent to sweep the rebels from the hotel. It wasn't an easy task, but after some time, the player managed to clear all of the enemies from the area.

And a good thing, too, because the President's patience had worn out. Despite Reno's protests, he left the safety of his hotel room. Just at that moment, however, the player returned to the room and Reno was relieved to learn that the area was clear.

Mission 2

The President of Shinra was intent on delivering his speech, so the player was ordered to escort him to the conference room. It seemed, however, that Avalanche had a few more tricks... from the upper floors of a nearby building on of the rebel dropped a bomb, obliterating the street below and separating the compliment of Shinra guards sent by Veld and Reno from the President, two guards, and the player.

Reno ordered the player to keep going while he went and took care of the bomber. A call from Veld informed the player that there were more enemies ahead, and that he should avoid them if at all possible. But even avoiding the rebels was not an easy task... and to make matters worse, as they neared their objective, a sniper attempted to kill the President.

Fortunately, he missed, killing one of the remaining guards instead, and the President immediately ordered the player to kill the sniper. That done, the player suddenly heard the sounds of a struggle outside. Looking out the window, he saw that the President and his last guard were surrounded, and rushed to help them. Although the player rescued the President once again, the second guard was killed.

It takes some time, but eventually, the player gets the President to safety.

Mission 3

As they neared their destination, two Shinra guards approached. One of them passed on a message from Tseng, saying that the player was to keep watch at the door.

It wasn't long, however, before the player discovered his mistake, finding that the real guards had been attacked, their uniforms stolen. Obviously, Avalanche members had taken their place. Acting quickly, the player charged into the conference room, taking on the two guard, and rescuing the President.

Reno arrived moments too late for the battle, the player having already wrapped things up.

Mission 4

As the President broadcast his speech from the conference room, Reno and the player were on their guard. Suddenly, the power went out, plunging the room into darkness. While Reno stayed behind to guard the President, Veld ordered the player to check on the generator and get the power back on.

Fighting his way past Avalanche members, the player managed to restore the power. But back in the conference room, things were not going so smoothly. When the lights came back on, Reno was surprised to discover that Fuhito had made his way inside. Luckily, the player soon arrived to lend a hand.

While Reno and the President fled through a hidden exit, the player challenged Fuhito. Fuhito, though, wasn't interested in a battle to the death, and after a brief fight, he took his leave.

The player's PHS rang, and Veld informed him that Avalanche had taken control of Junon's Mako Canon.

Meanwhile, Reno and the President had arrived safely back in the President's hotel room. The President received a short video call from his son, Rufus, telling him that he'd been watching the action on the security monitors. A second call from Veld informed him of Avalanche's current actions. Veld ordered Reno to take back control of the Mako Canon, leaving the President alone in the hotel room. As soon as Reno left, Fuhito turned up. Declaring that the President's death would help to heal the planet, he shot him and fled.

Veld appeared on the video phone once more. The President was not yet dead, however, and ordered Veld to bring in Sephiroth to take care of Avalanche.

To be continued...
