Nero the Sable is a member of Deepground's elite, the Tsviets. He is the younger brother of Weiss, whom he refers to as the only person he has ever loved and the only person who has ever loved him. He is unflinchingly loyal to his brother. Nero's specialty among the Tsviets is his power over darkness. His darkness can pull others in and hold them captive in a torturous void. Much like Vincent's alter personality, Chaos, Nero's darkness came as a result of exposure to tainted Lifestream... and it is because of this common origin that Vincent is immune to Nero's dark powers.
Nero aided the Tsviets by gathering other humans to use to create a pure Lifestream, pulling them into his darkness and releasing them only to meet their death. He is also responsible for the destruction of Cait Sith #4.
Nero briefly infiltrated the Shera, taking several members of the airship's crew for Deepground. In the Shera's engine room, he was confronted by Shelke. Though she put up a valient effort, he defeated her easily and pulled her into the darkness, as well. Using her shield materia, Shelke was able to survive in the void just long enough for Vincent to rescue her after being pulled in himself.
Though Vincent defeated Nero in battle, it was Weiss who delivered the fatal blow to his brother. Under the control of Hojo, Weiss stabbed Nero and cast him aside to die. However, when Weiss was shortly thereafter defeated by Vincent, what remained of Nero's spirt reappeared and prodded Weiss' personality to take back control. Nero merged with his brother, effectively contaminating Hojo's "pure" host, due to his exposure to tainted Lifestream, and destroyed Hojo completely.
