Stage 2: Showdown in the Wastes

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stage 2: Showdown in the Wastes
Location: Wastelands
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Stage Missions:

Eradicate the Guard Hounds!

Memory Capsules: 3

Accessories/Weapons/Key Items:

Thunder Materia

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This one is short, so it shouldn't take you too long to get through.
After the cutscene with Reeve in the van, you will find yourself in control of a mounted machine-gun. Learn to love it... you'll be seeing these bad boys in nearly every level after this, and they come in handy on occasion. The "Eradicate the Guard Hounds!" Stage Mission will automatically be triggered, and the object is painfully simple. Shoot the evil doggies. A perfect score is 70 out of 70.
After a bit of shooting with the big gun, you'll see a quick cutscene and then be sent up to the roof of the van to fend off the guard hounds attacking from the cliffs above you. Try to take them out at a distance, but look out for the ones that jump straight at you and land on the van. Soon enough, you'll get to the end of the course, resulting in another cutscene, wherein the van defies gravity and sails across a chasm. When it lands, you find yourself stuck traveling to Edge on foot.
Before you leave the area, there are three memory capsules to pick up. First, look around for a waterfall. Walk toward it and look down into the river below. MEMORY CAPSULE #1 is not too far from the base of the falls. Use your Sniper Scope if you're having trouble shooting it. MEMORY CAPSULE #2 is in the northeastern corner of the map. Look over at the ledge across the river. For MEMORY CAPSULE #3, walk around the van until you are positioned on the rocks just above it on the incline. Turn around and face the van. The capsule is plainly visable underneath the van.
For completion's sake, run through the three Mako Points in the area, and then proceed down the path beyond the van.
------ Boss Battle ------
Boss: Crimson Hound
Yep, you're already at a boss fight. Told you this would be a short stage.
This guy packs a nasty bite, but luckily he doesn't use it often. He spends most of his time hanging out on the cliffs up above you will his guard hound minions come after you. Keep the beasts at bay, and shoot the Crimson Hound whenever you have a clear shot. Some decent hits from your Fire Materia will bring his HP down some. One of his minions will drop a Thunder Materia, so make sure you grab it when you get the chance.
Eventually he'll come down and fight you himself. If you're quick about it, you can kill him before he summons more guard hounds to help him.
-------------------------
The Crimson Hound will drop a Card Key, so grab it, and head for the Laser Gate farther down the path. As you walk through, a cutscene will trigger, showing that the Crimson Hound isn't quite finished. But that's no problem for Vincent. A few quick shots, and Crimson Hound is yesterday's news. Continue on and you will find yourself in...
------ Boss Battle ------
Boss: Pegasus Riders
... another boss battle. They really love to through these at you, don't they?
These guys are a little tougher. Several Deepground soldiers on gliders will circle you, shooting at you, and occasionally trying to run you down. If you have any mako energy left, hit them with some Fire spells. If not, just use your handgun (don't bother with the machine gun you picked up back in Stage 1... they move too quick to build up any decent hits in with it).
These guys seem to blow up real good if you can manage to hit them head on. Unfortunately, if you miss a head on shot, they'll most likely run you down, dealing some nasty damage and knocking you to the ground. Whatever you do, keep moving. Some of them like to come up behind you and run you over.
If you're really having trouble, try using a limit breaker and hitting them with the Galian Beast's energy shots with the R1 button.
-------------------------
Beat these guys, and you'll see Vincent do some cool moves with his gun, and then, end of stage.
