After a quick cutscene of Rosso talking to herself, followed by your introduction at gunpoint to WRO scientist Shalua Rui, your off on your next mission. Edge, a town usually bussling with activity, is silent as the grave. You need to find out why.
If you turn around 180 degrees, you come across a Laser Gate on your right. Just make a note of it for now. You'll be coming back here shortly. Ignore the stairs on the left... you'll be coming through that area on your way back. No need to explore it right now.
Head down the path. Almost immediately after turning the corner, if you look to the right you'll see an easily missable alcove with a Shop Kiosk. Stop up on items/ammo if you are so inclined, and move on. Take the small side alley on the right, and look out for the dog-guards that are wandering around. They sometimes like to pounce on you from above. Follow the path until you get to the next street area.
Cross the street and head down the side alley. Walk through the Mako Point on your way, and then head for the WRO soldier leaning against the wall. He'll tell you about being ambushed by Rosso the Crimson and direct you to the warehouse at the edge of town where Deepground was gathering civilians. He will then die of his injuries, leaving behind a Card Key.
Keep going if you want, but there's nothing here but some dog-guards, and a case that is inaccessable due to an annoyingly placed fence. Double back to the street and take a left. Some dog-guards will jump dog at you. Take them out and head up the stairs on the right. There's no need to stay on the upper path... in fact, you can grab some extra handgun bullets if you jump down. Upon reaching the end of the path, you'll be right back at the beginning of the stage. Walk across the street and use the Card Key on the Laser Gate.
Enter the building. There is a potion in the corner, and you can pick up the Hyrda next to the stairs. You're going to become very good friends with this rifle very shortly. I recommend equipping it as your second weapon, and customizing it with the Long Barrel, the Sniper Scope, and the Cerberus Relief for now.
Head up the stairs and collect the rifle bullets in the corner. Don't waste your rifle ammo out here. You'll need it soon. Kill the dog-guards with your handgun, and proceed through the fenced area. Head down the flight of stairs, and into the center of town. A cutscene shows you that you're not alone. Snipers! This triggers the "Eliminate the Snipers in Hiding!" Stage Mission.
Take cover immediately (I like to head right back into the alcove I just came out of). These guys deal heavy damage, and they're harder than hell to see, so the worst thing you can do is run out in the open. Switch weapons to your new rifle.
Sniper #1: Standing behind the arched openning of the alcove, look just a bit to the left of center on the roof of a building.
Sniper #2: Move a bit to your left, and forward, then look to the far left of the arch on the roof of one of the shorter buildings.
Sniper #3: Move back towards the center of the arch, and look to the bridge across the town center on your left.
Sniper #4: Move forward under the arch, and aim farther to the left at the same level as Sniper #3.
Sniper #5: Move just slightly out from under the arch, and aim hard left up at the bridge.
Sniper #6: Don't move... just swing around hard to your right at the same level as the last one.
Sniper #7: Just to the left of Sniper #6, but higher up. You'll have to come farther out to see him.
Sniper #8: This sneaky little bastard is at ground level. Move to your left along the perimeter of the town center to the thrid alcove, and then aim directly across from you. He's hiding next to a shootable white crate.
Head over to where Sniper #8 was. Run through the Mako Point, and shoot the crate for some machine-gun bullets, and pick up any items the sniper dropped. As you head back out into the town center, a boy will run across the screen. If you follow him, he'll run into one of the buildings.
Ignore him for a moment, but note which door he went into. Head toward the northeast alcove in the area, and aim at the rooftop of one of the far buildings using the Sniper Scope. You'll see MEMORY CAPSULE #1. It can also be obtained when you get up on the walkways in a few moments, but you'll be dealing with other things then, so might as well grab it now.
Follow the boy inside.
Pick up the 1000 gil behind the counter, then head upstairs. Take out the two soldiers who try to ambush you, and make a quick stop at the Shop Kiosk if you wish. Go up the second flight of stairs for a potion and some machine-gun bullets.
Hmm... a dead end, and no kid in sight. No where to go but back the way you came. Do so.
The little brat! He was hiding down here the whole time. The boy runs out the door, and you hear some Deepground soldiers in the distance shouting orders to go after him. Better go lend the kid a hand. Follow him out and shoot the soldiers in the first alcove on your left. Pick up the Hi-Potion that's back there and move on to the alcove with the Laser Gate to save the boy.
A cutscene with a very one-sided conversation will occur and the kid will lead you to someone who can get you through the gate to the warehouse. The "Protect the Boy!" Stage Mission will be triggered now, so follow him as he leads you to another building. If anything tries to grab him along the way, kill it (don't worry... if at any point during this stage mission you screw up and the kid gets dragged off, he'll leave behind a key that will open up the locked doors he was going to lead you through).
Follow him inside, and grab the 1000 gil behind the boxes on the left. Head up the stairs and out the door. Now you must make your way around the walkway, protecting the kid from the Deepground soldier that try to carry him off. Cross the brigde to a short ladder, but before you go up, turn toward the town center and look at the large structure in the middle. MEMORY CAPSULE #2 is on the scaffolding near the green tarp.
Climb the ladder, and the kid will pause and look down between two buildings. Jump down, and follow the path through the metal gate. Remember that case behind the fence that you couldn't get earlier? Well, there it is. Grab it to get the Materia Floater accessory. Turn around and head back up to the kid.
Walk forward just a few steps until you can see around the wall to your right. MEMORY CAPSULE #3 is on the small ledge to the right.
Near the end of the bridge, two dog-guards will jump out, so have your gun ready and shoot them. Keep following him. Eventually, he'll get to the edge of a wall and jump back in a panic. There are two soldiers around the corner shooting. Take them out fast. Move on, but don't follow too closely. Three more dog-guards will jump out, and you'll need a little distance to get a clear shot at them.
Just as you're almost to the door, the kid will get all panicky again. Switch to your rifle, and zoom in on top of the the brownish building directly across the town center and take out the sniper. The kid will then unloack the door for you. Head inside and take out the guy lurking on the stairs. He'll drop a Card Key. Grab it, and you'll trigger a cutscene with the boy.
Afterwards, you'll be outside. Before you move on, make sure you turn around and go in the door behind you and to the right. This is the same place you just picked up the Card Key. Inside you'll find a case containing the Model Gun (a totally useless item as it is now, but later in the game you can "upgrade" it to make Vincent's Ultima Weapon... it's expensive, though, and really only useful if you're planning to play through the unlocked Extra Hard mode after you beat the game).
Use the Card Key to get through the Laser Gate. Head down the street and after you kill the soldiers, duck into the alley on the right. Snipe the soldier on the high platform ahead of you before you're seen, and then take out the second guy on the ground as you round the corner. Run over and stand directly below the platform the first soilder was on. Turn and face away from the wall, and look up into the corner of the area. MEMORY CAPSULE #4 is on a small ledge.
Follow the path around, and as you round a corner, you'll see another guy on a high platform. Snipe him, too, and then move forward and take out the three guys that run into the alley from offscreen. As you exit the alley into the street, there will be another sniper up high near the green street sign. Shoot her.
Look to the left and head up the stairs to climb to the spot where the sniper was. Follow the path across the street, and then turn hard left and kill the sniper on top of the building. Run through the Mako Point, and shoot the crate for some rifle bullets, then dash across to the building across the street and tke cover behind the sign to avoid the next sniper. He's down low, on a short building just beyond the white crates across the street.
There's another sniper on the ground, hiding behind the crate on the left. When he's gone, jump down to the ground and run to the southeast end of the street. Head up the staircase and follow the path up, taking out two more soldiers in the process. Climb to the top and shoot the crate for 3000 gil, then drop down to the ground and shoot the other crates for a Hi-potion and some machine-gun bullets. Check the alcoves on the left for a limit breaker and more handgun bullets.
Run out into the side street ahead, and turn to the left. You'll see a fence. Beyond the fence, you should be able to spot MEMORY CAPSULE #5. Turn around and head to the other end of the street. On the right side of the street is a door that leads to a room with a Shop Kiosk. Go up the stairs for 1000 gil, but watch out for the soldier waiting for you up there, and the second soldier that somehow sneaks up behind you.
Go up the second flight of stairs and out the door, and turn to your right. Drop down and follow the path to find a shootable crate. Shoot it for a free elixir. From here, you can either backtrack to the Shop Kiosk, or drop down and circle back around to the right.
When you get back to the side street, go to the end and cross over to the left side. A cutscene will trigger, showing Deepground soldiers waiting for you on the stairs, and the game will Auto-Save.
First, back out into the street a bit and snipe the explodable barrel above you to take out one soldier. Then step into the stairwell, and take out the next guy. If you wait a few moments, the third will come running down the stairs... straight into your line of fire.
Now that it's clear, head up the stairs. When you reach the top, more soldiers will come out shooting. Kill them and round the corner. Ahead of you is a staircase leading down. There's also a guy waiting for you under the stairs, so be ready to shoot him as soon as you can get a bead on him. Run through the Mako Point, and then up the next flight of stairs. More guys will be waiting around the bend. Kill them and drop down. More corners... more soldiers. Just be ready to fire quick, and you should be fine.
Eventually, you'll read another street. Switch to your rifle, and turn to you left just as you step out into the open. There's a sniper down the road hiding behind the metal scaffolding. Step out a little further and take out the one directly below you on the ground. Run along the ledge and another sniper will start shooting at you from across the street on the ground. Follow the path along the fallen metal girders, and move towards the end of the street. The last sniper will be beyond the fence at the end of the road. Snipe him. Incidentally, this is also where MEMORY CAPSULE #6 is.
Drop down to the ground, and backtrack to the other end of the street to pick up a limit breaker if you need it, and then head back to the far end. Run through the Mako Point, and then turn to the left. Down the alley, there is a fenced off area with several soldiers inside.
First thing's first, snipe the nearest guard. Sometimes you can get him with the exploding barrel, but sometimes it seems to miss him. A good headshot, however, never fails. Run into the alley, and use the barrel on the far left to take out two more soldiers, then hit the one hiding behind the box. Go around the fence and into the area. Before you attempt anything else, turn around and aim up for a sniper on the platform. Use the Shop Kiosk, and then head through the door and the game will Auto-Save. Time for a boss battle.
------ Boss Battle ------
Boss: Heavy Armored Soldier
This fight is annoying. The first thing you want to do it take out the two normal soldiers on the floor and the two snipers on the right-hand side. Then run like hell to the stairs on the right and climb up to the catwalk. Take out the two snipers on the opposite side.
Now for the main event. This guy not only has a machine-gun, but also a rocket launcher, and a sword. You're relatively safe from the gun on the catwalks, but beware the rockets. And also keep an eye on his movements. He can and will climb the stairs and come after you if you don't finish him quickly.
However, you don't want to take him out just yet if you're trying to get all of the memory capsules. Yes, they were evil enough to put a memory capsule in a room with a boss... and you can't get it later, so you'd better get it now. While the boss is running around the floor, follow the catwalk to the far end of the room. MEMORY CAPSULE #7 is up in the rafters.
Once you have your memory capsule, let loose on the boss with everything you've got. A few blasts from your Fire Materia should bring his HP down a bit. After that, just riddle him with bullets. If you've got a clear shot for a decent amount of time, the machine-gun works wonders. Otherwise, just use your handgun.
-------------------------
After the battle, you will see another cutscene with Rosso. She and Vincent finally meet... and you hear more about the mysterious Protomateria, which apparently they believe Vincent possesses. Rosso attacks, sending Vincent fying into a wall... but he tranforms him Chaos, for whom the Tsviet soldier is simply no match. She escapes, and Vincent collapses, exhausted. His last moments of consciousness show Shalua walking towards him.
