Friendly Creatures

Occasionally, during a random encounter, the usual battle music will be replaced by a more melodic version. This is a cue that you have encounterd one of Final Fantasy IX's "friendly" monsters. These creatures will not attack, but rather reward you if you are kind enough to give them whatever item they might request. Catering to these creatures is a great way to gain extra AP, as well as some items.

Useful tips
  • If you attack them, they will run away.
  • Though these creatures are located in specific areas, they appear randomly
  • You do not gain Gil or EXP from them
  • You cannot encounter the Friendly Yan or the Purple Jabberwock without the aid of the airship or a red chocobo
  • The Friendly Yan will run away unless you've given items to the other 8 creatures
  • If you give the Friendly Yan his requested item, you will be allowed to use physical attacks against the optional boss Ozma.
  • Do not give your Diamond to the Gimme Cat.
