Final Fantasy XIII Director: Restrictions Of HD Consoles Impact Development of Games

Final Fantasy XIII director, Motomu Toriyama, has been speaking at the Game Developers Conference 2010, which is being held in San Francisco.
Some major traditional RPG elements, and found in many Final Fantasy games as well, are missing from the newest entry in the series, Final Fantasy XIII, which has drawn a lot of criticism.
Toriyama has made some comments to Gamasutra website regarding this:

After sales in Japan topped 2 million since its release in December, Square Enix have announced that 3 million copies have been shipped to Europe and America since its western launch.
The Final Fantasy brand usually entails a good sale, regardless of the negative criticism it may garner sometimes, as FFXIII certainly has. It has a wide appeal across all the world, with its biggest impact in Europe, America and of course Japan.

The long wait is over. After four years in development, Final Fantasy XIII has been launched in the West and is ready for fans of the series to play it.
A big launch event in San Francisco included voice actors, Square Enix developers, Microsoft and Sony spokespeople as well as other industry players.

Despite the closed beta of Final Fantasy XIV forthcoming, Square Enix are eager to continue supplying the Final Fantasy XI universe with more content, underlying their commitment to the hardcore fans of the MMO.
The company have announced plans for three new expansions to Final Fantasy XI, which will be released throughout this year.
The names of the expansions are Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea and each will cost $9.99.
